General Manager, Fremantle Surf Lifesaving Club

Fremantle Surf Lifesaving Club (FMSLSC) is seeking a motivated and collaborative leader that exemplifies our Club Values and will drive the implementation our strategic plan and manage the Club’s operations and facilities.


Salary range is subject to skills and experience: $80,000 – $110,000, plus superannuation (11.5%) .

Flexible Work Options: Hours are negotiable. Applicants able to commit to between 22.5 and 37.5 hours per week will be considered. During peak times in the Summer season (mid-October to mid-April), some Sunday morning attendance will be required in lieu of usual hours.

On site attendance at the Club is preferred with flexible work off-site options to be negotiated after 6 months.

Established in 1935, FMSLSC has a strong history of outstanding community service and education with a mission to ensure safety on Leighton and Port Beaches, while developing our people and building a great community. Our values are Respect, Inclusion, Service and Excellence (RISE). There are four pillars to our club – Life saving, Education, Surf sports and Nippers & Junior Development.

About the role

The General Manager is a newly created, essential leadership role that will report to the Board of Management and manages the Membership and Events Officer, canteen staff and supports office bearers in their volunteer roles.

The General Manager will be responsible for supporting the Club’s sustainable growth and development in:  the active, engaged membership, improved capacity across the four pillars of Surf Life Saving, and development aligned to the Club’s Strategic and Operational Plans.


Professional and strategic communications management to engage and inform members and community.

Financial management including preparation and monitoring of budget in collaboration with Director Finance and stock and merchandise oversight.

Sponsorship, partnerships and marketing development with capacity to strengthen financial sustainability and manage grant applications.

Site Management including the building maintenance plan, ongoing and as required Club improvements and tenant relations.

Human Resource Management of Club staff including  Canteen Manager and the Membership & Events Officer.

Regular reporting required including at monthly, after hours meeting of the Board of Directors.


Selection criteria

We encourage applicants from all backgrounds. We seek a person with exemplary interpersonal relationship skills, that will demonstrate our RISE values at all times.

·         Experience in business management and administration.

·         IT skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office.

·         Financial Management skills.

·         Exemplary Communication skills – including, interpersonal, social media and report writing. at a club.

·         Sponsorship, marketing and partnership development.

  • Understanding of not-for profit organisations and  Surf Lifesaving.

Licenses and qualifications:

·         Relevant tertiary qualification e.g. Commerce, Management, Marketing, Sports Administration – or equivalent professional experience.

  • WA Driver’s License
  • WA Working with Children Check
