Hello U11-13 Nipper Parents,
Let Felicity and Adam tell you about Nipper Camp – it’s the best part of surf club! How do we know? We’ve had the time of our lives attending camp along with our kids.
Fremantle Surf Life Saving Club is unique in hosting a camp for our nippers at Point Peron Camp School. With a long and rich history, the camp is something of a rite of passage for nippers from under 11 to under 13 age-groups. The kids come away from the camp with life-long friendships across the different age-groups, and a sense of belonging.
Many kids tell us camp is the best part of nippers, and is so popular that our kids who have progressed onto Youth age groups are banging on the door to come back to attend as mentors. These youth are outstanding role models for our nippers. The camp has proven to be particularly valuable to those kids who may not be as competitive in surf sports. Camp activities are all about collaborating together to solve fun problems, try new things that take them out of their comfort zone in a safe environment, and most of all, have good clean fun. We foster teamwork, leadership, creativity, and confidence. We have a strict “tech free” policy for kids – no phones, smart watches, or gaming devices.
Supervision is provided by Nipper parents, and we are very lucky this year to have doctor and nursing parents volunteer their time to respond to any health or first aid problems that may arise. We do need more mums AND dads from each age group to assist in supervising nippers so please indicate your availability when you register your child. Adam and Felicity are running the camp this year, and will provide you with all the direction you require. We will look after you VERY well. We do try to keep our Age Managers away from camp as they spend many, many hours supporting your children during the nipper season. Parents staying overnight require a valid Working With Children Check – if you don’t already have one please pick up a form from the Club Office very soon, as it can take 4 to 6 weeks to process. We also require parents with Surf Rescue Certificate or Bronze qualifications – if you can’t stay the entire weekend, but can provide water safety on the Saturday of camp, we can get as many kids in the water as possible.
Camp Details
Places strictly limited to 80 nippers
WHEN: 5pm Fri 20th March, to 9.30am Sun 22nd March
Nippers must be able to attend entire camp (non-negotiable)
WHERE: Point Peron Camp School, Rockingham WA
TRANSPORT: Private transport to & from camp at Point Peron. Strict sign in & sign out to occur at Camp. Charter bus will take kids to surfing lessons at Secret Harbour.
PRICE: $250 per Nipper
FOOD: All provided – we cater for allergies / food intolerance
WHAT TO BRING: Kids need to be sunsmart at all times on land and in water. A packing list will be sent closer to the date.
