Fremantle SLSC place a strong emphasis on the education, ensuring our Nippers have the skill set required to keep themselves and other safe .
The Nippers program combines surf sports skills development with a comprehensive surf club program developed by Surf Life Saving Australia. Each Age Group Manager (AGM) is required to work through each component of the Age Guide much like a teacher follows a school curriculum. At the end of the season if a Nipper has completed all of the units and has met the attendance criteria set out by the AGM they receive a certificate (i.e. Under 7 Nipper would receive the Surf Play 2 Certificate)
The Nipper program is just the start of the journey into Surf Life Saving. When Nippers reach Under 13’s they undertake their Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC). Once they pass the SRC they are presented with red and yellow patrol uniforms. At this point, the Nippers become part of a patrol. From under 14’s (Youth) opportunities for education and obtaining qualifications expand
Potential qualifications include:
Bronze Medallion (required before any of the following courses can be undertaken)
Advanced Resuscitation Techniques
Spinal Management
Senior First Aid
IRB Crew
IRB Driver
Silver Medallion
Gold Medallion
Helicopter Rescue Team
Emergency Response Team Member
Education is not just limited to Nippers and the Youth.
Adults are welcome to do the training too!
