March Past & R&R Training

Hi everyone,

An information session will also be held on 27th October during Nippers and Youth.

R&R is a team sport that models the rescue and resuscitation of a patient in an aquatic environment. R&R demonstrates the actions taken by a First Responder to rescue and resuscitate an unconscious patient using the process of DRSABC. The sport involves a marching component, aquatic rescue techniques using a surf reel, resuscitation techniques, patient care and care of lifesaving equipment. Teams are judged by officials for precision, teamwork and efficiency to determine the winning team. Each team gains a point per technical error in their resuscitation routine and the team with the least points wins. U10 – U15s can compete in teams of 2 (one rescuer and one patient) and U14+ can compete in teams of 5 (involving a swimming component and a surf reel).

Age categories are

U10 & U11 – can compete together in 2 person R&R

U12 & U13 – can compete together in 2 person R&R

U14 & U15 – can compete together in 2 person R&R and 5 person R&R

Open – can compete in 5 person R&R and 6 person R&R

Marchpast is a ceremonial event that involves marching in formation around a rectangular arena. The team consists of twelve members who carry a reel and the club flag. The team marches to the beat of a pipe band and must follow a very specific routine. Each team gains a point per marching error and the team with the least points wins. It’s a fun way to open a carnival.
