It is with deep sorrow that we farewell Terry, whose warmth, dedication, and friendship left a lasting mark on all who knew them.
Terry joined the Fremantle Surf Club in 1998 as an Associate member, his son was already an active member.
He became Club Registrar in 1998/99 and continued until he retired in 2017.
As Registrar Terry put an analytical perspective on membership trends to highlight the areas for improvement.
In 2000/01, he became Club Secretary and then when the paid position of Club Administration Officer was created, Terry was appointed and which he held until 2017.
Terry was nominated by the Club for State Annual Awards of Excellence for Administrator of the Year in 2006/07 and again in 2011.
In 2006, Terry was made Project Officer for the redevelopment of club premises, the objectives was to;
- Develop the FSLSC Building for members and the broader community, and
- Ensure the developed building is in keeping with the Leighton Oceanside Parklands Landscape Master Plan.
This culminated with new clubrooms and lease in 2011.
Terry was integral to the Club achieving the President’s Medal in 2008 as the best surf club.
As Administrator and Registrar, Terry was very approachable, mainly through his calm demeanour and willingness to listen respectfully to all requests and then to provide a carefully considered and pragmatic response. He was a thorough gentleman.
Terry was warmly farewelled by all when forced to retire through ill-health.
